Graceful, brilliantly colored, and reef-safe—the Pintail Fairy Wrasse is a showpiece fish with peaceful energy.


Description:

The Pintail Fairy Wrasse is a vibrant and elegant species from the Cirrhilabrus genus, often hailing from deep reefs around the Philippines, Japan, and the Coral Triangle. Males are vividly colored, typically displaying a blend of pink, yellow, purple, and blue, with a distinctively elongated, “pintail” extension on the caudal fin. Females and juveniles are more subdued but still colorful.

  • Coloration: Males are vividly colored with a distinctive pointed tail; females have more rounded tails and softer colors

Care Requirements:

Tank Size:

  • Minimum 55 gallons for a single specimen

  • 75+ gallons if keeping a group or with other fairy wrasses

Diet:

  • Carnivorous

  • Feed 2–3 times daily

  • Diet should include:

    • Mysis shrimp

    • Brine shrimp

    • Finely chopped marine meats

    • High-quality marine pellets/flakes (enriched with vitamins)

Behavior:

  • Constant swimmer; highly active in the water column

  • Peaceful with other species, though males may display toward one another

  • Can be kept singly, in male/female pairs, or in harems (1 male to several females)

  • Enjoys being part of a peaceful community tank
