Vibrant, active, and often the star of a reef tank.


Description:

Bartlett’s Anthias are small, colorful reef fish native to the central Pacific, especially around the Marshall Islands. Males display bright magenta-pink bodies with yellow backs and tails, while females and juveniles are more muted but still striking. Their elongated dorsal fin and constant movement add liveliness to reef tanks.

  • Size: Up to 3.5 inches

  • Coloration: Pinkish-purple body with yellow dorsal area and tail

  • Lifespan: 5–7 years with proper care

  • Temperament: Peaceful but active; can be semi-aggressive among their own kind or when establishing hierarchy


Care Requirements:

Tank Size:

  • Minimum 55 gallons for a small group (1 male with 3–5 females preferred)

Diet:

  • Carnivorous; feed 2–3 times daily

  • Diet should include: mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods

  • Thrive with a varied diet rich in protein

Behavior:

  • Schooling fish; best kept in harems (one male to multiple females)

  • Can become aggressive toward conspecifics if not enough space

  • Males may chase females to maintain dominance

Reef Compatibility:

  • Fully reef-safe

  • Will not harm corals or invertebrates
